How to Heal From Heartbreak

Excerpt from Page 160-162
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in the time of trouble.” Psalm 46:1

Pause and let that sink in for a minute...God purposefully steps into our painful realities, powerfully and boldly, unintimidated by our trauma, unafraid of our pain, and ready to help. Can you imagine it? God actually wants to be with us in our darkest, most depressed, most hopeless moments. Notice it’s not just that God is there, but God actually wants to be there! That blows my mind every time I think of it. Nobody actually wants to enter those dark, ugly places with us. We try to do it, but I’m not sure we want to. If we could just remove a person’s pain altogether, then I think we’d much prefer that. And even when our closest loved ones, our ride-or-die truest-bluest friends are actually courageous enough to walk through those darkest moments of pain with us, it can be incredibly overwhelming for them.

God, however, has no problem stepping right in at the point of our need, in the midst of the worst kind of sorrow. Now I don’t mean to paint God as some sadistic deity that actually enjoys our painful moments, but rather as a deeply compassionate savior, lover, and healer who cares enough to show up when we’re at our worst. That’s a reason to shout! When you’re in that space that hurts the most, the hurt so deep it keeps you up at night, that’s where God wants to be—right there with you!

“For God’s compassions fail not. His mercies are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness!” --Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV)

So take solace in this: When you create that space and cut down the chatter in your world, you are actually making room for God. As you remove all the clutter from your heart, mind, and spirit, God moves in and plans to hold you, console you, and love you! In this, God is your “refuge,” giving you a hiding place away from the people and situation that hurt you. God’s presence becomes a reprieve, a resting place for your heart.”
